The goal is to give the counselor some comfort in engaging clients' dream recall. In line with thinking of early psychology pioneers Karen Horney, Alfred Adler and Fritz Perls, the view presented is that dreams are an effort of the preconscious mind to work through dilemmas and integrate life experiences. It serves the client if the therapist is able to welcome such intuition, inner-directed knowing and problem-solving initiative.

- Consider implications for working with life dilemmas & depression, age-related identity crises, empowerment issues, and recovery efforts in clinical settings
- Identify one way dream-work's exploration of life themes augments interpersonal communication
- Understand and demonstrate encouragement of varied views on shared material.
- Practice use of multiple meanings, or "frames", in group interaction
- Identify two approaches to the clinical use of dreams
